Every year, the Feast of the Annunciation (March 25–nine months before Christmas!) reminds us of the day when an angel visited Mary and invited her in a unique and powerful way to participate in God’s loving plan for the world. Through her “yes” and through her carrying and giving birth to Jesus, Mary carried the Word of God and allowed the Incarnation to unfold.
Praying in the newly finished and blessed Jaime Bonet chapel, it is impossible not to bring to prayer in gratitude all the hands and hearts that have literally built this beautiful chapel. This chapel, built from straw (do not worry, it will not fall down!), draws you into the mystery of the incarnation.
What does it mean to be Verbum Dei today in a world that is breaking at its seams and violence seems to be the norm? I would like to offer this personal reflection on our founder Jaime Bonet, as a way of pondering our call to be prophets and disciples of the Word rooted in the silence of profound Love.
It is almost one year since the death of our founder, Fr Jaime Bonet. He died June 25, 2017. After his death, many people started asking me about Jaime: who he was, how he interacted with us and how he managed to transmit and keep his vision and spirituality alive.
